Join Kitty on a dog-friendly adventure through some of the island’s most beautiful trails.
Kitty is a small, energetic, six-year-old white dog with a remarkable story. She was once found as a puppy in a levada in Prazeres – rescued by kind locals from Paul do Mar while they were enjoying a poncha. After changing homes a couple of times, she finally found her forever place in Paul do Mar.
Today, Kitty knows these mountains like the back of her paw. She loves hiking towards Prazeres and Fajã da Ovelha and will confidently guide you along scenic trails full of nature, silence, and breathtaking views. Along the way, she sometimes runs ahead, then returns to check if everyone is keeping up and always leading with energy and curiosity.
A part of the proceeds is donated to animal welfare organizations in Madeira, helping other dogs find safety and care.
Our adventure begins at the Sol e Mar restaurant in Paul do Mar, where we walk through the village before starting a steep climb toward Raposeira. The trail is wild, steep, and sometimes slippery, but the higher we go, the more stunning the views over the coastline become.
Kitty takes the lead, weaving through fields and open landscapes, guiding us through peaceful nature filled with flowers, fresh air, and silence. Eventually, we reach Raposeira, a charming village with traditional houses and welcoming locals who are always happy for a chat.
From there, we continue along a levada before taking a newly built path toward Fajã da Ovelha. The scenery along this section is simply breathtaking. A short stretch along the road follows, where Kitty, now reluctantly on a leash, pretends she hasn’t just completed a mountain hike.
Finally, we begin our descent back toward Paul do Mar. In the warm sun, we walk downhill with the ocean waiting at the bottom. Once we arrive, you can enjoy a swim or a refreshing drink at the beach bar. Kitty is warmly greeted by locals and still full of energy, ready for more.
